One of the earliest of Jimi Hendrix documentaries, this one gathers together those associates whose memories of him are fresh: Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, and Mick Jagger, among others. Friends and colleagues discuss his career and life from its start to his untimely death. Several note his impact, early on British music, but that he also was bothered by his own stage personality that typecast him in the music world. Information also comes from Jim’s father, Al, and close friends like Little Richard. Hendrix also speaks for himself through an interview he gave Dick Cavett. Much of the music comes from concerts at Monterey in 1967 and at Woodstock several years later.
