Charles (Clive Owen) and his wife Deanna (Melissa George) live in the suburbs with their daughter who has a life threatening kidney disease. They are saving money for an experimental drug that will hopefully save her life. Charles, trying to cope with the pressures of home, befriends Lucinda (Jennifer Aniston) on a morning commute into the city. Their relationship starts off seemingly plationic, eating out followed by drinks, until one night in a dingy hotel it turns into more. Their affair is interrupted by a man who steals their money and rapes Lucinda. He then begins to blackmail them unless he gets exactly what he wants. Now, Charles and Lucinda have to decide if they should fight back and expose their affair or give into him and pay the ultimate price.
